FIA Extreme H World Cup sets new benchmark for equality in motorsport
Official FIA data from the inaugural event has revealed an average speed gap of just 0.36 seconds between male and female drivers over a two-minute lap. This provides clear proof that when competition consists of equal machinery, equal seat time, and equal engineering support, the performance between male and female drivers converges.
For Hansen Motorsport, this confirms what we see within our own team: when the playing field is truly level, talent is what defines results.
Catie Munnings, Team Hansen driver, said: “I’ve felt the difference first-hand, and am proud to have been a part of proving what is possible. Women racing in Extreme E and Extreme H let the track action do the talking, and I hope real opportunity continues for many years to come.”
Timmy Hansen, Team Hansen Team Principal, said: “It’s very cool to see these statistics and I think we can let the numbers speak for themselves. Catie and the other women keep improving and I hope their performances in Extreme H continue to inspire others and encourage a completely level playing field across motorsport.”
Susann Hansen, Team Hansen Team Manager, said: “Since my days of racing in rallycross back in the 1990s, the shift in the mindset of women in male-dominated areas has changed both in motorsport and in society. It has been a long journey to reach this point, where competing side by side and giving the same opportunities has borne fruit. It makes me happy, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Extreme H’s structure, inherited from its innovative predecessor Extreme E and built on shared knowledge, advanced technology, and equal opportunity, has already accelerated progress.
Since the early seasons of Extreme E, the performance gap between male and female drivers in comparable sectors has dropped from 4.5 seconds to just 0.4 seconds. That is a remarkable 91% improvement driven by the quality of competition and the depth of development time available to all drivers.
Extreme H also represents a breakthrough in sustainable innovation. Its hydrogen platform demonstrates that cutting-edge zero-emission technology can power true sporting equality. For Hansen Motorsport, this aligns directly with our commitment to driver development and supporting a greener, more equal future for the sport.
As the FIA Extreme H World Cup develops and continues to prove that in modern motorsport talent has no gender, Team Hansen will continue to push the limits on pace, on technology, and on opportunity.
