Statement regarding Lydden Hill incident
Hansen Motorsport supports the decision made by the FIA to halt the World Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill.
Investigations into the cause of the fire at Special ONE are ongoing, and we will continue to help the FIA World RX organisation however we can.
“Hansen Motorsport supports the decision of the FIA, and the main reason is that safety comes first. We need to learn from what has happened and benefit from it,” said Team Principal Kenneth Hansen.
“We love to be on the racing track, it is our passion, so we are sad not to have been racing at the weekend. I think we can come back stronger from this – not just us but the whole championship.”
It was announced on Saturday evening that the World RX round at Lydden Hill would not continue due to an ongoing investigation by the FIA, the World RX promoter, local authorities and Kreisel Electric, the battery provider to the electric rallycross race cars:
“At this time, it has been determined that the investigation has not progressed far enough to determine a root cause of the failure that led to the fire.
“As the route cause is unknown, it was determined that all alternatives would be based on speculation on the causes of the extremely dangerous fire. Further, the battery manufacturer, Kreisel, was unable to provide an appropriate level of assurance in the system, pending their investigations.
“Therefore, following input from the FIA Safety Department and in cooperation with the promoters, in the interest of the safety of all concerned, the Stewards [determined] to stop the competition.”

We send all our support to Guerlain, Sébastien, and the whole Special ONE team whose cars and equipment were lost in the fire on Friday, but the most important thing is that no one was injured.
The other categories continued to run at the weekend, including our junior team #YellowSquad, and we would like to thank all the fans and partners who came out to support them and offer their condolences to the World RX competitors.
The investigation continues as all parties look for a solution ahead of the next round of the championship in Mettet, Belgium (August 5-6), and we hope to have further updates soon.
Kevin Hansen said: “Not the weekend we wanted in Lydden Hill. It has been an amazing crowd though supporting the championship and the RX2e teams. We have had so much support for our team as well throughout the weekend including from our incredible guests. Hopefully we will be back racing again in Mettet in two weeks’ time.”
Timmy Hansen said: “No racing for us this weekend. Feeling very sorry for the Special ONE team and we’re all taking it quite hard. For safety reasons the decision was taken to take more time to investigate what happened so that we can race safely in Belgium.
“I want to thank everyone who came out at the weekend. Of course, we wanted to put on a show for you, but we keep moving forward towards Mettet and try to prepare as a team and come back stronger. Hopefully that will be a clean weekend with lots of good racing – I think that is the best way to respect what has happened and respect all the fans who still came out to support.”
