Hansen World RX Team set for showstopping season finale in Türkiye
After eight rounds of the 2024 FIA World RX Championship, the Hansen World RX Team heads to Türkiye (9-10 November) for the final two rounds of the season following a standout performance in Montalegre.
At the penultimate double-header in Portugal, the team scored an incredible three podiums across the two days of action, including Kevin Hansen’s stellar first victory behind the wheel of an electric Peugeot 208 RX1e.
Extracting the full potential of the electric powertrain in the World RX ‘Battle of Technologies’, the Peugeot 208 RX1e package is as strong as ever, and both drivers are confident in the machinery at their disposal this weekend.
Istanbul Park, the host circuit for the season finale, has been absent from the World RX calendar since 2015, when Timmy Hansen took his third victory of that season, propelling the Swede to a second-place finish in the standings that year.
Currently lying second in the 2024 Drivers’ Championship, Kevin Hansen is prioritising a strong points haul in Türkiye to cement his position in the championship standings.
Sitting only thirteen points behind his brother Kevin, Timmy is currently fourth. A good result in Istanbul could see both Hansen brothers finish in the top three when the championship concludes on Sunday, potentially challenging for overall honours in the Constructors’ Championship.
Kenneth Hansen, Team Principal of Hansen World RX Team, said: “I think Istanbul Park will be a really good track and produce some interesting battles. A big part is the Formula 1 track, so it’s quite wide and makes it possible to take different lines, which will be good for overtaking. The gravel might be quite slippery in some parts, leading to some mistakes and exciting races. We’re also looking forward to finishing this year’s World Championship at Istanbul Park with the addition of some new drivers. It will be a good show!”
Timmy Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, added: “It is the final race of the season, and it feels like we’re on good form. At the last two events this year both Kevin and I have won a race each, and the car is feeling great. I’ve always enjoyed the track in Istanbul. I took pole position in both Finals the two times we have been there and went on to take the win in 2015. I’m very excited to go back. Hopefully, we can dial everything in and secure two podium finishes in the championship.”
Kevin Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, noted: “I’m very excited for Türkiye and I enjoyed the track when I drove it in RX2. Türkiye is a big motorsport-loving country, so it’s great to have the World Championship there and open to the public. A great run last time out in Portugal in September means we’re extremely positive, but we may struggle with the extra weight of the electric car at this track. With three good drivers joining I also think it will be great entertainment. Hopefully, we can leave with a double win and at least second place in the championship standings.”
