Hansen World RX Team target big points haul in Belgium
After a dramatic double-header in Nyirád, Hungary, for Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2024 World RX Championship the Hansen World RX Team has vowed to return from Belgium with a great haul of points.
The Belgian municipality of Mettet is set to host the classic event that finally returns to the World RX calendar after a six-year hiatus. This highly anticipated event will see teams battle it out over a double-header weekend for Rounds 5 and 6 of the World RX Championship.
Reflecting on the team’s last outing, Kevin Hansen who showed good pace throughout, was unlucky to not come away with a better result in Nyirád, following a dramatic clash with Johan Kristoffersson in Saturday’s final that denied him a shot at victory.
Finishing both second and third previously at Mettet, Timmy Hansen aspires to climb to the top of the podium this weekend. Similarly, Team Principal Kenneth Hansen is also no stranger to success in Belgium which puts the team on the best foot for the weekend.
Hansen World RX team will head into the upcoming rounds with supreme confidence that they can deliver a strong result to reignite their charge in the Championship standings.
Kenneth Hansen, Team Principal at Hansen World RX Team, said: “The team is looking forward to Belgium, it’s a slightly different circuit to normal with some rough gravel sections and some fast straights. We’re of course targeting the podium; we haven’t quite reached it this year so, hopefully, we can manage that this weekend. With the battle of the technologies, it’s not one hundred percent in our favour because we are carrying a lot of weight compared to the combustion cars which will affect the grip and the braking but we will do the best we can. We have made some improvements since Hungary so that combined with some clever strategy we will be aiming for the top spots.”
Timmy Hansen, Hansen World RX Team Driver, said: “We looked strong in Hungary but never ended up on the podium which we were hoping for. We stayed there testing after the race and made some good progress and I think we can bring that into Belgium. We are starting to understand how the tyres are working and how we need to approach setting up the car which we’re excited to put into practice this weekend. Despite no podiums, we have still reached every final which highlights our consistency and aids our championship fight. Kevin and I will give it everything we’ve got for the rest of the season and hopefully we can get both cars on the podium this weekend.”
Kevin Hansen, Hansen World RX Team Driver, said: “We are looking forward to Belgium and it’s nice to be back with full power as last year we had to race with our RX2e cars. Unfortunately, the race doesn’t start with a longer straight, which would favour our electric car, however there are some later on in the circuit which will allow us to stretch our legs and maximise our car’s full potential. The test after Hungary really helped us understand the car better so hopefully this will make us a little more comfortable and quicker so we can challenge in Belgium.”
