The two biggest trophies in rallycross. That’s what Kevin Hansen has his sights set on winning in 2021 – the drivers’ championship for himself, and the teams’ championship for Hansen World RX Team. It’s a typically confident assertion from the talented 23-year-old but it’s also with merit: he’s won almost every other major rallycross championship out there, and only the FIA World Rallycross Championship crown remains on his to-do list. While intensity is ramping up ahead of the season opener in Spain next weekend, Kevin’s pre-season preparations were a relaxed but productive period. “The past few months for me has been quite calm. I’ve been able to focus a lot on myself and our company – to see what I can do better – because we’re coming into the last season of the petrol era and I really want to take the world championship title,” said Kevin. “This year’s championship is going to be really exciting with the promoter coming in and there’s going to be a lot of good action to follow – and lots of good drivers too. “Timmy is always strong, and Johan [Kristoffersson] coming back this year is going to be really exciting to see, and how he does in a different car. Also Niclas Grönholm of course is a strong contender. It’s going to be a really big challenge this year but I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.” Competition for the big prize is as strong as ever – especially with three-time champion Kristoffersson back on the grid – but that hasn’t changed his tune. Neither has the less-than-ideal start to the 2020 season, where it took until round seven of the season for Hansen World RX Team to score its first win of the season. “Going into this season we didn’t want to repeat any of our mistakes from last year. We want to enter the season well prepared, and I think that’s what we’re doing this year. We’re testing a lot more and we’re thinking about small details all the time, leaving no stone unturned. With this team behind us, we can aim for 1-2 in the championship.” “I’m really excited about this season. I’m so ready to get out there and battle and fight for the wins. We have a strong package, we have strong drivers, and I also feel very strong this year. We’ve been the most successful team in rallycross history so far and we plan to close this chapter by winning both titles.”
