Multiple World Championship-winning team, Hansen Motorsport, faces a new challenge in its 2024 FIA World Rallycross Championship assault, as the third year of the discipline’s electric era comes with a sustainable twist.
The most successful team in rallycross history will draw on its wealth of knowledge and experience, as it retains 2019 World Rallycross Champion Timmy Hansen and 2016 European Rallycross title-winner Kevin Hansen.
The familiar driver line-up will be squaring up to unacquainted adversaries in the 2024 World RX season, as the eagerly anticipated ‘Battle of Technologies’ racing comes to life. For the first time, cutting-edge electric cars – introduced to World RX two years ago – will go wheel-to-wheel with sustainably-fuelled RX1 combustion counterparts.
Opting for the all-electric Peugeot 208 RX1e cars, the Hansen World RX Team are looking to build on last year’s performance in pursuit of both the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles this season.
Podium contenders from the outset in 2023, the Hansen World RX Team hit the ground running with second in the season-opener in Montalegre, Portugal. That podium was among six rostrum appearances last year, including a win at the season-finale in Hong Kong, as the team finished second in the Drivers’ and third in the Teams’ standings.
Led by 14-time European Rallycross champion Kenneth Hansen and European S1400 champion Susann Hansen, the squad is adding lessons learned from last year to an intense off-season ahead of its 2024 championship challenge.
Behind the scenes, Hansen Motorsport remains unwavering and unified in its efforts. From the mechanics and engineers to the PR and communications staff, the team pushes for the epitome of teamwork, and each member plays a crucial role.
The 2024 FIA World Rallycross schedule features ten rounds across five double-header events, with the campaign kicking off in Höljes, Sweden (6-7 July). Following the ‘Magic Weekend’ season-opener, the championship heads to Hungary where the drivers will take on Nyirád’s ‘Red Cauldron’, which steps up to the World Championship for the first time (27-28 July).
Two well-known World RX venues follow in Mettet, Belgium (17-18 August) and Montalegre in Portugal (7-8 September), ahead of an exciting season finale as the series heads overseas to Australia (30 November – 1 December).
Kenneth Hansen, Team Founder of Hansen World RX Team, said: “This season feels different in many ways, so we’re grateful to have Timmy and Kevin continuing with the team.
“Timmy and Kevin have both enjoyed a great start to the year in their other disciplines, and this gives us a lot of confidence as a team going into the World RX season. Just as they have been working hard, so have we back at Headquarters. We have turned all the stones we can to find all the small ways for us to improve. We must keep innovating and trying new things, and this is how the ‘Battle of Technologies’ has come about.
“With sustainably-fuelled combustion cars lining up on the grid we have an intriguing mix, and, for me, it will be very interesting to see how the two different technologies perform throughout the season.”
Kevin Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, said: “It’s great to be confirmed for another season in the World Rallycross Championship with the Hansen World RX Team. Our team has such a strong presence in rallycross, and we’ll be drawing on all our history in the sport to take on this 2024 season.
“Last year was a fantastic learning curve for myself and Timmy in different ways. We work well together and that’s also how we can develop the car in the right way. We require the same things, and we have a very similar language when we talk about the car, so we’ll be looking to push development as much as we can throughout this season.”
Timmy Hansen, Hansen World RX Team driver, said: “I’m happy to be racing again this season and to keep my streak alive of having done every race in World Rallycross so far. To be taking on 2024 with Kevin in our ninth season as teammates feels special and gives us both a great foundation to work with.
“It’s a very different season this year. We’ve had two seasons of new electric technology and now, finally, we get to go up against combustion cars and I think that will be a great show for the fans.
“The electric will have some strengths, but so will the combustion – which will be a lot lighter in the regulations – so it will be very interesting and for sure make the championship more unpredictable.”
